After finishing her one-year term, we thank Nora Leidinger for her outstanding work as the first Student Member on the IASPM Benelux board, and we are happy to welcome our new Student Board member: Antonia Wechner!
As the new member to the board, Antonia will act as a representative for all higher education students in the Benelux region devoted to popular music. She will participate as a full member of the board with all respective rights and responsibilities, including voting rights, tasks like assisting with the organization of (live or digital) events and (social media) communication, as well as, specifically, the organization of the student conference.
Antonia introduces herself:
“Hey, I’m Antonia and I’m honored to be the new representative for the popular music students on the IASPM Board in the Benelux region. Currently, I’m participating in the master program Arts, Culture and Society at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Before that, I completed a bachelor’s degree in musicology with a specialization in jazz and popular music research as well as music aesthetics at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Graz (AT). My thesis focused on the funding decisions surrounding popular music venues in the city of Graz which sparked my interest in researching the function and value of popular music in urban environments and culture-oriented cities. As the new student board member, I want to create a more tangible idea of the academic work done on popular music for students and support them in approaching the field through organizing events where they can get to know the IASPM Benelux and expand their knowledge on popular music research.”
